I was taking a class in  college about Scientific Voyages.  I drew this after waking up one morning with this image in my head. Not sure where or when this is, but i wanted it to feel like one of those really old photos where everyone is staring back at the photographer.

When i was taking a pastel class back at RISD,  one of our models was always falling asleep since he was really getting old and tired. He would often sit in his chair, go to sleep, and let us draw him until it was time to wake up. I was sitting right next to him when i made this drawing.
